What is the School Overnight Program?

The School Overnight Program (SOP) involves 4th-6th grade students visitng IslandWood for a week of environemntal education with their class. Through the SOP program we deliver experiential “hands-on” education using the environment as a context for learning. The School Overnight program also focuses on engaging diverse learning styles, integrating science, technology, and the arts and showcasing sustainable practices.

Environmental education is a uniquely valuable experience that allows students to engage with their environment, and each other, in new ways. Taking students out of the school building (and into the woods!) allows educators an avenue to facilitate experiential learning- which can then be transferred to more traditional classroom learning.
